Mini Moke? |

Early one with small wheels. Seems no wipers. Doesn't look Aus build, but for ZA may be Rhodesia rather than direct from UK. "About 300 MkI Mokes were produced by the BMC Plant in the then city of Umtali in Rhodesia and a few have survived including Body number 001. Body number 281 is with the author and a few others are recorded as still being in Zimbabwe. Most of the surviving vehicles are badged BMC, with "Morris" Engines. Although the majority of parts in the knock down kits (CKDs) sent from the BMC factory in England to Umtali are dated 1964, (ie early production Moke Mk1's) the first Umtali Mokes most likely were assembled in '65 and as late as 1967" from here. Entered as Morris rather than BMC to avoid creating yet another obscure hole where we'd lose Mokes never to be found again. |

Update - new info found. There was also Moke build in ZA early 1965-69, 412 made (plus a handful of earlier prototypes for army evaluation). Unclear if Austin or Morris, but notable for getting 998cc in Sept 65 - the first Mokes anywhere in the world to do so. |
