2013 auction listing: "1961 MGA 1600 Sports Reg.no. 8163 AZ Chassis no. GHN94567 Engine no. 16GA-U25630 This late registered example was first sold in Northern Ireland to the son of the owner of Main Garage, who sold BMC cars. This garage was used by the MG works team when visiting Northern Ireland for competitions. The car returned to the mainland in the 1970s and during the 1980s was used at Silverstone and other venues. It was later used for sprints for many years, followed by a period of storage. In 2004 the car was located and re-commissioned by the current owner. During the last three years the car competed in the Luffield MGCC sprint/hill climb events, winning a third in class, 2013. This modified car is fitted with twin Weber 45s, an MGB ‘large valve’ head, a competition brake master cylinder and competition brake hoses. It also sports a works competition manifold, a competition screen and fibreglass period front and rear wings. It could be used as is for lots of fun or the basis of a rebuild to a fine standard car." Mk1 discontinued March 61 before Mk2 arrived June 61, so this fits as one of the last Mk1s. |
