Can't it be a 360 with this trim? |

High spec with lots of bits and rear spoiler, but no tints or trim badge in grille so not top of the tree. |

I am 99% sure this is a 360GLT. I’m not an expert but I have owned a 1984 360GLS and a 1987 360GL. My brother has owned a 1982 343GL, a 1983 360GLT and a 1987 340 GL. Also during the 1980s I spent quite a bit of time at a local Volvo dealer. As far as the UK is concerned all 360s with the fuel injected 2.0 engine have fog lights integrated into the front valance. That is all GLTs and the GLE saloon with the “injection” badge on the boot lid. All other 360s had the carburettor version of the same engine. They never had fog lights fitted as standard but where they would be mounted was covered by black plastic blanking plates-easy enough to fit the lights retrospectively but few bothered. For some reason no UK buyer of a 340 had the option of fitting these fog lights as there was no mounting in the front valance. In the final years of the 340 many were fitted with the “GLT” spoilers (front and rear) and also in a lot of cases the 13” alloy wheels that had been fitted to the 360GLE injection saloon wearing the same size tyres as the rest of the steel wheel equipped range, but still no fog lights. I think they were known as 340GL Redline. The GLT hatchback and saloon had 14” alloy wheels as standard, the same as this car, and I don’t think they were offered as an option on other versions. As for tinted glass, the brochures I have read say only the 340DL has not got tinted glass. As for grille badges, 1982-1985 everything that wasn’t a DL got a grille badge. 1986 onwards the clues on the front apart from the fog lights and blanking plates were chrome or black grille surrounds and the grey plastic or painted bumpers-no badges. 360s had painted bumpers, like this one. 340s had grey plastic. The one other external feature visible on this picture that tells me that it is a 1986-1989 360 is the side windows are connected with a black decal (not present on any 340 I have seen). Sorry to nag on such a trivial matter. Have I convinced you? |

OK - yes. I'm not expert on these - I just read details from Glass's Car Check guides. Which for 360 GLT 4&5 door has a specific mention for August 88 of black window surrounds (plus high level brake light, deep bodyside mouldings and sunroof). Didn't last long here as all 360s discontinued May 89. Most of our 340s went at same time, leaving only 1.4/1.7 basic and GL hatches - no saloons any more - to limp on until Oct 91. |

Yes. I believe the 340 lost the chrome window frames and gained the deep body side mouldings when the 360 went out of production so I can see the confusion. |
