Just come across this site whilst going down a Google rabbit hole and thought I could add some information. My late father was an avid Crayford fan but it wasn't until 1981 that he could afford as " used" one which was Quicks' of Manchester demonstrator. It was actually a Carbodies 1.6 GL Coupe automatic in white. The reg plate was RNF xxW but I can't remember it all. No PAS and auto choke which was a nightmare so we converted it to a manual. It was a wonderful car in its day. It got handed on to my mum when we found a 2.0 GLS manual (903 FAB) in prairie yellow ( yuck) for sale in Croydon in 1986. That was a much better car to drive and was on the Crayford Stand at the NEC in 1987. Dad kept it until 1990 by which point the scuttle shake etc had taken its toll on the bodywork. I think it was either 1982 or 83 I saw a metallic brown 2.0 GLS for sale in the Sunday paper. We went over to Anfield to see it and it was Bruce Grobbelaar's. Sadly, in those days the players parked behind the Centenary Stand and nearly every body panel had been scratched / keyed. Despite my excitement ( LFC fan and it had electric windows) it was a firm no from dad ![]() The only Crayfords or Carbodies Cortinas I remember from the TV are: Rentaghost, Only Fools & Horses (MK 2 "shed") and the pink (LHD) one in the Barbie video by Aqua circa 1997 ( Crayford MK 4) |
