This an 'MW', the ERF European model with the Motor Panels cab shared with the Seddon range, the Guy Big J and the Scammell Crusader, amongst others. I recall that Merseyside PTE had an ERF wrecker built with this cab, although the photo shows a SELNEC example. |

This is SELNEC's ANA706M ''Big Bertha'', an ERF MW six-wheel recovery wagon new in 1973, first registered 09/01/74 and based at Hyde Rd depot. Merseyside PTE did indeed operate an MW, new in 1975 via Perris & Kearon ERF numbered #53 and on trade plates 075KA. This used a Gardner 6LXB engine coupled to a Fuller 8-speed gearbox, and a TFL 20 tonne hydraulic crane and 50 tonne powered winch. This was registered in 1988 as Q700GBG, during it's time with Merseybus, and was re-fitted with a second-hand C-Series cab soon after. It is now preserved as part of the Merseyside Transport Trust collection. |
