You beat me to it. Neat photos on Imperial Club site: (LeBaron Southhampton in foreground) http://imperialclub.org/Yr/1961/FactoryPhotos/61-imp-carshow-small.jpg Custom Crown Southampton http://imperialclub.org/Yr/1961/FactoryPhotos/Custom-small.jpg Crown Southampton 4 door http://imperialclub.org/Yr/1961/61Invitation/Page02-03-reg.jpg http://imperialclub.org/Yr/1961/61Invitation/Page05-reg.jpg I think it says that the Custom had stainless roof inserts on the outside of the chrome roof spears, and was also a price leader. I doubt that it would be a Custom, but who knows? |

There is no rear vieuw mirror. the big change this year is that Chrysler mounted his inside mirror on the upper windshield frame instead of on the dashboard like all Chrysler Corp cars between 1957 and 1960 |

I think it says that the Custom had stainless roof inserts on the outside of the chrome roof spears, and was also a price leader. I doubt that it would be a Custom, but who knows? No, it's different: the 4-door Custom costs in the USA 5.109 $ (4129 produced) and the 4-door Crown costs in the USA 5.647$ (4769 produced) I don't know why that 10% difference. |

The price difference is because the Crown had a longer standard equipment list, which included power front seat, power antenna, signal seeking radio, air conditioning and 'better' interior trim comprising of leather and brocade. The only external giveaway is a minute golden crown in the vicinity of the 'Imperial' scriptplate on the fender. I say 'vicinity', since the position relative to the scriptplate varied. The stainless trim outboard of the roof trim was optional for Custom and Crown and standard only on the LeBaron. I'm unable to spot that crown in the slightly closer up picture and hence plead for Custom. I once owned a 61 Crown and want it back! -- Last edit: 2008-04-20 20:43:14 |
