Fumbling my way through 541 sequences ... Glass's says announced Oct 53, production started Jan 55 with bottom-hinged boot and square plate, adding 541 Deluxe in Oct 56 (more oomph, disc brakes, twin exhausts. 541R Oct 57 had big blister over rear arch and top-hinged boot (all R) with rectangular plate (not sure if all R or later ones only). Then Oct 58 plain 541 stopped and Deluxe continued with top-hinged boot until March 59 discontinued. Oct 60 541S replaced 541R - retained big rear arch blisters, new front grille, paired round rear lights, bonnet air vent and so on. Noted that Simon's 541 page doesn't quite match - says for instance there were early and late R boots - but otherwise the same sequence. So no rear arch blisters here, just the smaller line so 541 plain or Deluxe. Bottom-hinged boot from handle position, 2-tone may be Deluxe feature/option. So Oct 56-Sept 58 Deluxe my guess, before boot hinge switched. |
