I have noticed a lot of US show use the 2013 model, can they not use the latest models or another car? UK shows do sometimes have new models as police cars as product placement like Kia for example |

SM99 we default at the earliest visual year. Police cars in US have minimal differences between years unless a major change or face lift occurs. IMDCb defaults vehicles at the earliest year a car was built. 2013 this generation came out. Without more details it is hard to tell exactly what year this Explorer could be; hence the default. Example would be the Crown Vics. 2006, 2007, 2008 are identical. Without a real license plate we default them at 2006. 2009, 2010, 2011 are identical on the exterior however, the chassis code changed in 2010 from P71 to P7B for police packages and 2011s have massive headrests to adhere to safety laws. If those details are unknown from a picture due to image quality, darkness or obscured then we default at 2009. |
