1978 (so to gr B was homologated at least 4 years later). Hard to tell what was the official name. "2500 Racing" or "Stratopolonez" (the second one sounds more like a nick name). |

Acc. to "Automobilista 10/2017" the car was built already in 1977 (it took about 4 weeks, works started in 10.1977), so as it was prototype, it is worth to have it with this year (1st year of the serial made "civilian" Polonezes was 1978). According to the same source, 1st it was named "Polonez 2500", but finally they decided it will participate mostly in races and the official name started to be "Polonez 2500 Racing" in 1978 (it debuted in its 1st sport event in 10.1978, participated in last in 1984). Personally I think that at the very begining, in 1977, it wasn't named even "Polonez", as according to popular sequence of events, the name "Polonez" was introduced in 1978, when 1st serial cars were already in production, but there are also some ambiguities in this topic. |
