Kässbohrer Setra S10 of ca. 1963. The number 10 means ten rows of seats ... so this is a bit of guessing. |

... and Setra means 'SElbstTRAgende karosserie' The first Kässbohrer Setra was the 1. bus without a extra chassis. Kässbohrer is the make, Setra S10 is the typ. |

Sorry, but no. The brand name for the busses is 'Kässbohrer Setra'. Other vehicles, like the 'PistenBully' use only 'Kässbohrer' as a brand name. |

The only thing that I can confirm is that in Belgium I see often busses with a very big "Kässbohrer Setra" logo on the rear |

@Alexander. Ich bin mit diesen Bussen aufgewachsen. Mein Opa hatte davon einige. @antp. Kässbohrer as brand and Setra as typ is the best. @Ralph: Thanks for your comment. Let me answer in English, so that the others can follow our discussion more easily. I hope you don't mind. You are of coures right that Kässbohrer invented and produced the self-supporting (chassis-less) busses and coined the name 'Setra' for this constuction principle. But doing so they started to use 'Kässbohrer Setra' as a brand name for the busses (according to a number of sources). Other products (Trailers, PistenBully) were not affected by this change. In 1993 the off-road section (PistenBully) was separated from the rest of the Kässbohrer company, which itself was taken over by Daimler-Benz in 1995. Since then the busses are being branded 'Setra'. So we actually have three names for one line of products: 'Kässbohrer': busses with chassis and the PistenBully 'Kässbohrer Setra': chassis-less busses until 1995 'Setra': chassis-less busses since It is not uncommon that a brand name changes. Just think of all the 'Jeeps': 'Willys' by 'Willys-Overland' 'Willys' by 'Kaiser-Frazer' 'Kaiser Jeep' by 'Kaiser-Frazer' 'AMC' by 'AMC' 'AMC' by 'AMC-Renault' 'Jeep' by 'Chrysler' 'Jeep' by 'DaimlerChrysler' Other examples are 'Büssing' -> 'Büssing-NAG' -> 'Büssing' -> 'MAN-Büssing' -> 'MAN' 'Leyland' van -> 'Leyland Sherpa' -> 'Morris Sherpa' -> 'Freight Rover Sherpa' -> 'Freight Rover' -> 'Leyland-DAF' -> 'LDV' ... and that is for one design! I do agree that it is difficult for the reader to switch between brand names. Therefore I did suggest to introduce a glossary where among other things company and brand name histories can be explained. To sum it up: keeping 'Kässbohrer Setra' as the brand name is correct for the chassis-less busses. |

"Kässbohrer Setra - the greatest name in buses" ; like the same slogan of Mack-Trucks/USA. but the one of Setra was only in german speak. (in original: "Das Beste Wort für Omnibus") - this was a real slogan of Kässbohrer´s buses before EvoBus. Gruß Wolfgang -- Last edit: 2013-10-11 17:31:10 |
