When this car was made, India was not yet independent.

You are right, Gamer. Should we say "made for GB" ? It sounds to me not so nice but otherwise I have no idea what to write.

Made for India still seems the best solution. Made for GB isn't a convincing idea, as the spec would be different from cars sold in GB. It's worth noting that the car predates India as an independent republic, but it had been a country called India for a long time. Our strategy should be to find the most useful way of describing the car, which may not be to follow the nuances of history.

What amuses me about this is that the car isn’t even identified and an argument is being held about the stupid “made for” thing. It looks remarkably wet.

It looks like a 1937 Buick Special or Limited to me but since I know as much about American cars as Noddy knows about the Kama Sutra, I’ll leave it to someone with more knowledge. I see we have 544 unidentified Buicks to go at, so maybe somebody might do it.

Thanks for the total indifference.

well... in my case its more lack of knowledge in cars from that era than indifference...

Indeed it looks like a Buick, however a 1938. As for the model, it's certainly not a Limited (which did not exist as a convertible coupé), but as mentioned a Special, or a Century. The best way to tell these apart is by viewing it from the side. If the cowl is covered by the fender, it's a Special, if it isn't, it's a Century. Looking at the film of YT there's a brief glance of the car passing by. Judging by the overall hood length and the fact that the front fender is slightly lower than the rear fender, I'd say it's a Century [66-C].

I only thought Buick because it looks like an Austin 16, so I looked up some Buicks, from which the Austin’s styling had been pinched. You’ve only got 543 left now!

Well, or or the Austin looks like a Buick :p

No, we had many Austins here, but I had never seen a Buick, only read that they pinched the Buick’s design for the Austin, so the Buick is of no importance to me, as a Brit, except to know that a 37 Buick looks like a 39 Austin.
