License plate A4974. A = Stockholms stad. This number belonged to a 1953 Standard (truck) in 1957. |

I assume the different-looking grille from a usual Hanomag is because of the gas producer? This may be a dumb question, but what does the gas producer do? I'm assuming this car already runs on gasoline. |

The "different looking grille" is just a fabric cover to prevent the engine from running cold during the winter. A gas producer, or wood gas generator is essentially an oven at the back of the car that you feed with small chopped pieces of wood to produce gas in order to make the car run. Back in 1941 there was a petrol shortage all over Europe due to the war, and as such many civilians converted their cars to run on wood gas. |

That is incredibly fascinating! I heard Europe experimented with hydrogen-powered cars, the result of which resembled the offspring of a car and a zepplin. Link to "www.reddit.com" |
