Toyota Deliboy. Probably dates from the mid 1980s although this one was imported in about 1997. This one looks like the heavier version - probably has HiLux mechanicals. |

There's a model I've never heard of, and yet somehow it doesn't surprise me that they'd make it. |

It is a 1985 Mazda Titan |

I do not find images from Toyota or Mazda vans looking like that, but you got that info from the licence plate I guess? |

Jap import going by the 1996 plates. |

I don't know about New Zealand, but in Britain "Jap" is an insult. |
◊ 2008-04-01 13:11 |
I think it's only being used as an abbreviation here, not an insulting noun. If it was 'jap. import', it might be fine. |

Japanese used import! -- Last edit: 2009-11-22 09:11:41 |

Yes info is from the plate. Good old carfax |

I'm not insulted at all I do, however, think that it IS a Toyota deliboy, as the Mazda Titan was only on a mideium-duty truck chssis from what I can recall. Maybe the headlights were altered to fit US market, but Mazda did not make walk-in type van until around 2003, when Toyota sold its deliboy chassis to mitsubishi and mazda. -- Last edit: 2009-02-23 22:24:43 |

But what about his comment about info being from the plate? Or was that just for the year? |
◊ 2009-02-24 02:41 |
just the year....i dont think you can tell model by plate this is filmed in australia, but this is definatley a Toyota DeliBoy Year is uncertain, but Mazda titan is not this type |

DeliBoy is abbrieviated from Delivery Boy, and van is made for delivery service |

nzcarnerd and q-ball are indeed correct on this one. It's most definitely a mid-1980s Deliboy, though CarJam tells us it's a Titan. Having been involved in car shows and classic car clubs over the past 20 years or so I have often encountered cases where one vehicle has been driven many hundreds of kilometres, often between North and South islands, on plates that belong to another vehicle also belonging to the owner. After all, why register an old vehicle for the sake of one club rally a year? In this case, I suspect that the owner also owns a Mazda Titan truck (also known as the Ford Trader), from which he/she has removed the plates (as well as the matching rego ticket on the windscreen, no doubt) in order to facilitate the road use of this Deliboy. I suspect that without badging, and due to the relative rarity of the model, an officer of the law would probably be none the wiser had he been pulled over. Alternatively, in my years as a used car salesman, I have seen instances where a vehicle was imported from Japan and registered as a different name. When the first Mitsubishi Liberos arrived in NZ, some dealers were registering them as Lancer wagons - I was party to an Eterna sedan being rebadged as a Sigma - in order to assist with consumer brand recognition. In one example an early-1990s Isuzu Aska was debadged and registered as a Subaru Legacy. However, the regulations were tightened a few years back and such name 'tweaking' is, I believe, no longer possible. Okay, so it's a hairy theory (I prefer the 'borrowed plate" one, personally), but I'm just trying to cover all bases on this one. -- Last edit: 2010-06-06 01:12:48 |

Made for: New Zealand |

The Deliboy that is being referred to had a unique walk-thru van body and was only available between 1989 and 1995. Here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/44871759@N00/1378767271 Though I'm not certain, I think this is a larger Dyna truck-based van called the Toyota QuickDelivery that was made from 1982. Have a look at this van - Link to "www.goo-net-exchange.com" - and see how the windscreen matches (it appears to have some unique panels that somewhat skew the ID but many match up.) -- Last edit: 2016-02-05 08:43:33 |

UE8184 = 1985 MAZDA TITAN on CARJAM. I'd say a local body on a Mazda chassis. |

Thanks, so not a local body but something imported from Japan. Titan Multi-Stop Truck according to Google translate. -- Last edit: 2016-04-23 18:08:19 |

So it's a Walkthrough Van, made for a japanese delivery company. Not "made for NZ" then. And from CarJam, the full chassis code is WEFAT, its meaning can be explained here: Link to "partsouq.com" I'll just enter [WE] like the other Titans/T-Series. |
