I´m not fully sure if the chassis for this particular example is correct, but it says here : |

Plate is LXD 666 (unless any other DE36s had LXD 66x plates), apparently 1951 DE 36 Sedanca by Hooper (London, Oct 50-July 51 "allocated in blocks"). However I've got book info and picture (same as here but correct ratio) with LXD 66(6) as chassis 52830, the Docker "Gold Car", shown at Earls Court 1951, apparently "the most magnificent and expensive ever built" and it has a solid roof (non-sedanca, although an electrically opening glass panel sat over the rear). Final plate digit obscured by the over-rider, but my guess is LXD 666 sat on on more than one car for publicity pics. However this looks very definitely like 52830' The Gold Car today but not with all its 1950s elements. Possibly explained here by Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust - if anyone knows, they should - "This car was much changed over succeeding years. After Sir Bernard was ousted the car was de-commissioned with the gold being removed and more traditional headlamps being fitted. During the ownership of Norris Allen, an American collector, it was repainted in black and grey.". |
