You are certainly right. 'Jeep' as a brand name turned up more than two decades after this film. This one is a Willys Jeep M38 A1 (1951). --- Getting all the Jeep's names right is a rather tedious matter. Over the years the brand name changed almost as often as the company/corporation that owned the rights. Here a short list: 'Willys' by 'Willys-Overland' 'Willys' by 'Willys Motors' 'Willys' by 'Kaiser-Frazer' (possibly also 'Willys Jeep') 'Kaiser Jeep' by 'Kaiser-Frazer' 'AMC' by 'AMC' 'AMC' by 'AMC-Renault' (possibly as 'AMC-Renault' in some markets) 'Jeep' by 'Chrysler' 'Jeep' by 'DaimlerChrysler' 'Jeep' by 'Chrysler LLC'/'Cerberus Capital Management' Plus a mass of licence built versions all over the world. A lot of those cars still listed as 'Jeep' need to be sorted out. I once started it but don't have the time to battle the flood of new 'Jeep' arriving all the time. Perhaps you find enough time to take up that task. Our very own Jim (4x4peru) is a very good expert on the subject. He plus a large number of internet sources could help. But beware, quite a few sources are not very knowledgeable, to say the least, about brand names. To many 'Jeep' fans brand names don't mean a thing. |

Actually, Alexander, Jeep was a division of AMC and then AMC-Renault between 1970 and 1986. |

That is true, but was 'Jeep' already a brand name under AMC? I find a lot of references that use 'AMC' and 'Jeep' as part of the model name. http://www.amc-jeep.de/content/galerie/fronhausen02/img/dscf0009.jpg Hard evidence for or against it is still missing. Brochures could help and a VIN plate should clear the issue. |

We've never had any Jeeps around here with that logo. They may've had them in Germany, but not on this side of the Atlantic. |

In Europe it was rather Renault Jeep at that time: http://bunnik.club.fr/renjee01.htm |

Thanks for the information Alexander. One thing I should point out is some shots were filmed at the real Fort Knox military base in Kentucky, USA and some shots were filmed in England. So the Jeeps in the shots filmed at the base may be real U.S. Army Jeeps. |

Yes, the scenes at Ft. Knox were shot by a second unit....with real US Army vehicles. Note the small details, the tire pressure stencil, antenna wire holds, etc. Compare with the non-authentic CJ3 in front of the UK shot of the phoney Ft. Knox. |
