Wrong. Actually it is a 1975 Dodge Monaco |

Wrong. Actually it is a 1975 Dodge Royal Monaco, determined by rear lights. -- Last edit: 2006-03-23 22:57:17 |

It is a 1975 Dodge Monaco. Because the Royal Monaco would have shade headlights. |
Rocker B. J. ◊ 2006-03-28 06:30 |
Please change it to 1975 Dodge Monaco. |

1975 Dodge ROYAL Monaco... |
Rocker B. J. ◊ 2006-03-28 07:09 |
No it's not a Royal Monaco. Just 1975 Dodge Monaco it's not a luxury sedan you lugnut. Please change it. |
◊ 2006-03-28 07:19 |
Please, Rocker B.J., what's the difference between those two models ? And then I'll changed it. |
Rocker B. J. ◊ 2006-03-28 07:21 |
Well because the Royal Monacos are luxury sedans. This is not luxury. The Monacos are regular sedans and this is a regular sedan. So it is a 1975 Dodge Monaco. |
explorer4x4 ◊ 2006-03-28 08:12 |
Man, you like to call people names don't you??? What is your proof that this isn't a Royal Monaco? |
Rocker B. J. ◊ 2006-03-28 08:18 |
explorer4x4. Royal Monacos are luxury sedan cars. The patrol in the picture is a regular sedan and that is a 1975 Monaco. 1975 Monacos are regular sedan and yes it is a 1975 Dodge Monaco Regular Sedan Patrol Car. not Royal Monaco. |

http://desoto58.com/story/monaco75f.jpg This, my friends, is a picture from the 1975 Dodge Monaco brochure produced by the Chrysler Motor Corp. of America. Also, search google.com/images for a 1975 Dodge Monaco and you'll see that this picture is a Dodge Royal Monaco. http://www.allpar.com/squads/dodge-monaco.html also, read this article about the Monaco police car history, allpar.com is a great site for car history and info from cars of the Chrysler group. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Monaco More information on the Dodge Monaco from wikipedia.org I could not find a good picture of a Royal Monaco, so you can search for yourself or, just look at the picture above! ![]() -- Last edit: 2006-03-28 08:32:55 |

This very well might be a Dodge Monaco and not a Royal Monaco, I am not a good judge. I think it is a Dodge Royal Monaco and I have looked up information, pictures and history of the Monaco, Royal Monaco and the Fury line (I,II,III and Gran) and it does seem like it is a Royal Monaco. And all the little detail seem to scream Royal Monaco. Now, I beleive it said in the article at allpar.com that the Royal Monaco and Gran Fury were very populer with the police. They were bigger and more powerfull and they were in todays standard a lot like the Crown Victoria. Also Royal Monacos had more availible for them then regular Monacos did. It is like the Ford Crown Victoria base model compared with the Crown Victoria LX Sport, simply an upgrade over the base model. |

I found this pic of '75 Monaco, which show different taillights... Link to "perso.wanadoo.fr" ...and this pic of '75 Royal Monaco with different front clip (including headlights). Link to "www.automotivechronicles.com" But here Link to "images.google.ru" you can see pic of Royal Monaco in police trim with front clip, common for Monaco (unfortunately, you cannot enlarge image).... have nice day! -- Last edit: 2006-03-28 08:45:02 |

Thank's guys, but I always don't know what's this car... ![]() |

It's a regular Monaco. 1) Police fleets would order the base models. 2) Royal Monacos have doors in front of the headlights like '70s Lincolns/Mercurys. 3) The taillight picture is actually a 1970 Polara (I saw this episode, they used two different cars for the opening chase) Scroll about 1/4 down: http://www.angelfire.com/80s/dukesofhazzard/vehicles.html -- Last edit: 2006-03-29 08:48:31 |

All C body Monaco's after 75, I.E. 76-77 were Royal Monaco's. Some were Broughams, some were not. But they all were Royals from 76-77. 74-75 offered Monaco's, Monaco Customs, Monaco Broughams, and new to 1975 Royal Moanco's, and Royal Monaco Broughams. C body Monaco's were not offered in 78. Just B body Monaco's. |

I have a different question. Is this a 1975 or is it a 1974? I know the ERTL/Joyride made diecast models of the General Lee and Rosco's Police Car a few years back. The police car they made appears to be this one, rather than the 1977-78 Dodge Monacos and Plymouth Furys that were used for most of the series. On the box it lists this car as a 1974 Dodge Monaco. I've ordered one off ebay and am awaiting its arrival. I'll be able to tell more off the box then. I already have the General Lee. So, is there much difference between the 74 and 75 Monaco, and do we have definite proof this is a 75 model? I did look at both 74 and 75 Monacos and it seems to me this pic is of a 74 model, not a 75. Also, looking at an old ad it DOES seem that cops might have had ROYAL Monacos. It was of a Highway Patrol 75 Royal Monaco--and the ad was advertising for everyone including cops. So, I don't know if this will help solve the old arguement above...but I do think that police departments might have had Royal Monacos after all. -- Last edit: 2009-03-21 23:31:15 |

The Royal Monaco was available as a police-package car, but this is a regular Monaco. And it is a 1975 as 1974 models had a different grill with only vertical lines running across. |
◊ 2009-03-22 03:23 |
Thanks, ford guy! This helps. I heard what they did was they took the 74 Monaco model they used for the "Bluesbrothers" mobile, and they created a "Dukes of Hazzard" police car model for Rosco out of it...even though his was actually a 75 at the beginning of the show. |
◊ 2009-03-22 04:56 |
I doubt it. Too many cars were used in the Blues Brothers movie and they were nearly all destroyed. Same with the Dukes of Hazzard. I bet you they used different cars for almost every episode given how they were always being destroyed. They always just got surplus police cars, probably sold at auction. |
◊ 2009-03-22 09:54 |
My bad, I didn't explain very well. I meant I had read that the "Bluesbrothers" car was a 74 Monaco. Joyride made a 1:18 diecast model of it. They then turned around and used the same model mold to create Rosco's cop car for the "Dukes of Hazzard" models--even though here we think Rosco's was actually a 75 Monaco on the show. In other words the movie/show cars were different years (although same make and model), but with the diecast models they are the same year. |

74 Monaco got this right. In later years Monacos and Royal Monacos were completely different cars, just as Furys and Gran Furys were entirely unrelated. |

Seems this has been made more complicated than it need be. Simple: In 1975 the Royal Monaco and Royal Monaco Brougham had hidden headlamps and a completely different grille from the base Monaco which had exposed headlamps and a grill similar to the 1974, but made out of rectangles rather than just horizontal bars, as photo'ed above. Photo of Royal Monaco Brougham from the 1975 Dodge brochure: Link to "www.oldcarbrochures.com" Photo of a base Monaco from the same brochure: Link to "www.oldcarbrochures.com" For comparison: Photo of a 1974 Monaco: Link to "www.oldcarbrochures.com" -- Last edit: 2010-10-10 21:47:28 |

Thanks for the clarifying info, Commander 57! This seems to set things straight. This '75 Monaco is one of my favorite cars Rosco used during the Pilot and a few episodes during first season. I believe this is the one that Daisy takes off in after kicking Rosco over when he tries to arrest her--seen during the opening credits for the entire run of the show. Also, this car still exists!! In 2006 or 07, at one of the DukesFests, they got a hold of this old Warner Bros car (used in 1979 for the first season) and even though it was a little rusty it still ran! It also was still decorated as a Hazzard County Sheriff's car. They set it up to have a General Lee jump it as part of the stunt show at the DukesFest. I've seen an 8x10 of that jump over this old car at the DukesFest for sale on ebay. In a sort of homemade documentary of the DukesFests, called "From Georgia to Bristol," they also show this car as it looks today--and they state that it still runs! ![]() My other favorite was also during first seaon and I think it was a 1975 Plymouth Gran Fury...almost identical to this car. It's also seen in all the pics for the show. -- Last edit: 2011-01-23 22:24:24 |

Correction - two Monacos were used during the Georgia episodes, and both exist. You probably saw "Police #2," which I've heard (through CGLFC) made an appearance at one of the Dukesfest events. That said, I quote from one of the gentlemen on the CGLFC forum (see this thread: http://cglfc.com/wforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3661). OAB = Episode #1 a.k.a. "One Armed Bandits." He is correct on everything except the year: -Kurt -- Last edit: 2012-08-18 13:28:03 |

this is a 1974 Dodge Monaro because i got the 1:18 die-cast car |

Monaco, not Monaro ![]() |
◊ 2012-08-18 13:28 |
No it isn't. Just because a die-cast company fools about with their box art doesn't mean anything. The '75s have eggcrate grills, while the '74s have three horizontal bars with inserts in between. The car in the main photo is a '75, though it could be argued that the second example driving around the Boar's Nest (second thumbnail) is a '74, from the looks of things. It's been a while since I've reviewed the episodes, so I'm not sure if Police #1 and Police #2 differed by one year. -Kurt -- Last edit: 2012-08-18 13:31:58 |

Good Lord, people. Pull your heads out. The reason for the confusion is that this page has 3 photos, but the rear shot is a DIFFERENT car!!! The front shots are Roscoe's '75 Monaco (the diecast is a '74 model). The rear shot is a 1970 Polara. ![]() |
