Oh, by the way, I've messed up the timeline, upon checking the internet and found an article by GridOto, the eleventh generation [S170] was actually introduced officially for the Indonesian market in 2001, please fix that. Extra info is Royal Saloon, the only trim level available in there. Their existences in Indonesia can be traced back in 1971, the introduction year of the fourth generation [S60/S65]. At that time, it is offered in sedan and station wagon bodystyles. Between the 1970s to 1980s, the Crown was very known popularly used by many Indonesian government ministries and agencies, which they even did this with the modern generations as of today. The fourth generation Crown was often nicknamed in Indonesia as the "Catfish Crown" (Crown Lele). Somehow, the "Catfish Crown" sells well, making Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), Toyota's Indonesian distributor brought the fifth generation [S80] and sixth generation [S110] to the market, unfortunately, sales eventually drop and the Crown went for a hiatus for the public consumers in 1984, with the X70 Cressida replaces it. Because of the Cressida, the seventh generation [S120] were brought to the country in either with limited numbers only for the Indonesian government or via grey imports. The Crown returns in Indonesia with the eight generation [S130] in 1989, two years after its JDM debut, officially sold by TAM. Only the sedan was available and offered in two trims: Royal Saloon and Super Saloon. Surprisingly, Toyota decides to build the S130 Crown in Indonesia, which remained in production for that market until 2000. That occurrence eventually skips the ninth generation [S140] and tenth generation [S150] entirely. The facelifted S130 arrived there in 1992. Earlier S130s were often nicknamed there as the "Robot Crown" (yes, no pun intended), while later S130s were nicknamed as the "Lexus Crown", because the facelift's design has a lot of similarities to the first generation Lexus ES [V20] and first generation Lexus LS [XF10], as the Lexus brand was already existed when the facelifted S130 was first introduced. (Updated by new info from Wikipedia, may change again if it isn't accurate) The eleventh generation [S170] would be the last Crown that was sold by TAM to the public, it was introduced in 2001 and ran until 2003. Only one trim level was available in there, the Royal Saloon, and they were imported from Japan. The Camry, Toyota's midsize sedan continues the Crown's legacy in that market. Since then, the twelfth generation [S180], thirteenth generation [S200] and the fourteenth generation [S210] were only sold to the Indonesian government for ministry and agency uses, all of them in those generations were since then retired and sold to the general public. Some Indonesian grey importers manage to import their own Crowns to the country in the wake of the S170 being the last Crown sold officially by Toyota. Recently for Indonesia's ministry period for 2019-2024, the government ordered a fleet of black fifteenth generation [S220] models in 101 units, the trim level they chose is the 2.5 G Executive Hybrid. Om Mobi of MotoMobiTV, an Indonesian automotive influencer bought a 1997 S130 for a challenge by Indonesian-based channel about automotive challenges, Road Party, the 100 Million Challenge. He loves the car so much because it is one of his dream cars, afaik for the challenge, he got lost to Fitra Eri and his Mitsubishi "Galant" Eterna and must apply a sticker says "#FitraEriTheChampion" as a "prize" on the rear windshield of the S130. Original plate was B 1997 HAR, but changed to B 1534 without back letters. Here's a pic by Indonesian photographer huse7n, featuring Mobi's S130 during the final race of that challenge: ![]() Here's two pics of my spottings from a long time ago of a S180 and a S200: ![]() ![]() Here's a pic of an example of a S210 in Indonesia: ![]() Finally, here's two pics of the S220 Crowns in Indonesia, the first one is when the fleet of them were arrived to the country, where they were delivered and handled over to the government, the second one is one of them being owned by the Indonesian politician Ahmad Sahroni with custom wheels, which was stored in his private garage, this pic was taken in the tour video of his garage by Irfan Hakim, via the deHakims channel on YT: ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2022-10-06 09:46:28 |
