It is either a 740 or a 760. Can anyone say for sure?

There's an inflation in car model names and looks. That is to attract new buyers all the time.

I don't know much about U.S. cars, but in Europe Opel started to put an 'L' (LAT: Luxus, Eng: luxury) on cars with more equipment fitted as standard. That was in the 50's.
BMW did the same, but towards the end of the 60's didn't feel it was enough and called them 'Lux' instead.
Ford UK felt even that wasn't enough and called their cars 'Deluxe' (LAT: Excess), which also Volvo used, but spelled it 'de Luxe'.
When that wasn't enough more variants appeared, like 'Grand Luxe' or 'Executive', but the most outrageous I've seen is the Datsun Bluebird SSS where the latter means 'Super Sport Sedan'. An impressive badge for a few extra instruments and some interior upgrades.

I might ridicule somewhat, but in the real life it's a matter of life or death for the manufactures, and for Volvo they were close to bancruptcy towards the late 70's.
Because of that they had to come up with something new, but that always means an element of risk as new components might fail.
What Volvo did was something quite impressive, they introduced the new concept as a luxurious model, that is at a price not anyone could afford. Then the would be buyers could save money until an less expensive model (the 740) arrived. Meanwhile Volvo could offer generous guarantees to remove all teething problems.

In 1988 Volvo introduced an upgrade to the 760-series, with a different front and interior, and a new independent rear axle. Then the 740 got the 760 look for the 740 GLE model.

As the filming date is of 1987, the 1988 740 GLE hadn't been introduced. Hence a 760.

Probably 1984+ because of the wheels http://www.240.se/falg/ .
As the hub cap isn't chromed it's likely not a GLE, but instead either a 'Turbo Diesel' or a 'Turbo Intercooler'.
