1961 Chevrolet C-70. For the record, most car carriers are tractor-trailers, rather than simple trucks. Judging by some of the other images, this one is too. -- Last edit: 2008-03-05 14:47:03 |

really? it is strange that it has a car above the cab in such case |

Not really. They just mount ramps on the top, and when they want to unload them, they just extend some ramps to the trailers. You are rigt Ddey65, now I see that it must be a tractor, but still strange, as in Europe such way of cars transport is unknown. |

I thought in Europe they not only hauled cars the same way, but even stacked them three levels high, with two ramps over the tractors. We don't even do that in the US & Canada. Here's something else you may not know; A lot of moving van companies also perform double-duty as car carriers. They simply add the cab-mounted racks for cars as you see above, and tow their usual moving trailers. So if you want to move all your stuff cross-country and your car with it, they can just put the car over the truck. -- Last edit: 2008-03-08 13:24:53 |

Those with 3 levels are quite rare I think, usually they rather look like this: http://www.transport-auto.fr/Images/ImgSite/29-size.jpg Few trucks like those that I often see: (as I work near that VW/Audi factory) |

By "unknown" I of course meant such tractors with ramps, in Europe there are usually special trucks with trailers like on the pic above. Indeed I think I've never seen something like that, even in American movie. -- Last edit: 2008-03-06 17:23:56 |

As a 1960-61 heavy-duty C-70 truck, this one is a Spartan. No chassis code (Chassis + Cab were XX03), as it seems not possible to identify more precisely this truck (133", 145", 157", 175" or 197" wheelbase?). => 1961 Chevrolet C-70 Spartan -- Last edit: 2014-10-05 21:18:37 |

(Some years and readings later...) In fact, with these cast spoke wheels, it could also be a C-60H (medium-duty / Viking ) or a C-80 (heavy-duty / Spartan model, like the C-70). → C-Series |
