If only we could see the instrument panel or the decklid this would be so much easier. The fender-top ornaments seen here were standard on the State-trimmed Commander, but were optional on the Champion Regal, so not much help there.

No view of the dashboard or the rear, but I was wondering if the model could be determined by looking at the hood emblem (below the hood ornament) :

Commander, being a V8 model, would have a chromed "V8" emblem, whereas a 6 cyl Champion would have a "checkered" emblem ?

Indeed, that'll work.

Why do I see this more as the Champion badge? Notice the 2 darker areas in the SW->NE 'direction' so to speak :D
But could be shadows as well..

From the mainpic, it looks more like the Commander badge, but that zoomed in pic makes me doubt. Retracting my certainty for now.

Thanks for the zoom shot.
I agree it looks slightly more like the Champion design. Let's list it that way for now.
All Champion convertibles carried Regal trim, with the addition of bright gravel guards, not seen on other Champion models.
