http://www.oldsmobileinaustralia.info/37hist.html 1937 Oldsmobiles were assembled in Australia using chassis and drivetrain shipped from the US mated to bodies made in Australia by Holden. The sedan bodies are similar but not quite identical to US Oldsmobiles (the placement of the taillight pods is a noticeable difference). The only other body offered was a "sloper" coupe that was unique to Australia. Six sedan appears to have been the most popular model by a wide margin, though records are unclear. Link to "oldcarbrochures.org" The Australian brochure shows Six [F-37] and Eight [L-37] sedans with taillights in different locations: Six up high like the car in the movie, Eight slightly lower, but the cars as actually built do not appear to have followed this. These surviving Australian Eight sedans have the taillights in the high position: Link to "www.flickr.com" & Link to "www.shannons.com.au" As do these surviving Australian Six sedans: https://www.flickr.com/photos/22729928@N02/8274536662/in/photostream/ & https://www.flickr.com/photos/22729928@N02/6914340312/ & https://www.flickr.com/photos/22729928@N02/5369268153/ But, like in the US the Six and Eight had different taillight pods. Eight pods were more rectangular with reflectors on the sides (proto side marker lights?) whereas Six pods were teardrop shaped. The examples I linked also show different bootlid handles on the Six and Eight. I think this car has Six taillights and handle. |
