It's a first gen Renault 4L (1961-1965) with the first logo '4L' at left, specific for this intermediate version. |

Before 65 = R4. |

No, the first range was R3, R4, 4L, and 4L Super at the top. This one is a 4L identified by this very specific logo. |

^ If so - and I'm not a Renault expert, so not agreeing/disagreeing - it's new information for me. The English sources I can access all refer to R4 for all versions before 1965, then 4 afterwards. It would also mean a new policy for us on the website - apart from a few stragglers, we have a fairly clean split of R4 before 65 and 4 afterwards (similar to R8/8 split). So: 1] can anyone confirm R3, R4, 4L, and 4L Super as definite? 2] if it is confirmed, what do we want to do - keep the current system because we're used to it and it's reasonably straightforward, or change tactics? 3] if we change, anyone want to volunteer to go through our R4 and 4 collections to sort them out And as an extra question, do we need to also sort R8/8 split? |

The 4L was introduced in 1961, that's certainly correct. |

... https://www.planeterenault.com/1-gamme/4-collection/10837--r4-legende-annees-70/ R3, R4, 4L from the start in 1961 (4L having 6 side windows, shiny hubcaps and chrome trim), 4L Super added in 1962 (bigger engine and luxury elements like sliding windows). |

I don't see where the current system goes wrong /search.php?resultsStyle=asList&sortBy=0&make=Renault&model=R4 -- Last edit: 2022-04-17 03:34:37 |

... although my French is not up to scratch to read the text of that article, I can spot lots of mentions of R4L and R4L Super, not 4L. |

Oh, if it's about dropping the R from R4L I wouldn't do that. Even Planète Renault uses them interchangeably. |

In Spain, for example, those manufactured by Fasa were always 4L and 4L Super, without the R, since the end of 1963. |
