This car was made for President Franklin Roosevelt. True it is 1938. There were two of these made, dubbed "Queen Mary" and "Queen Elizabeth" after the great passenger ships. I ask help to verify that 7533X is correct designation for the two presidential cars? |

According to my sources (80 Years of Cadillac & LaSalle by Walter M. P. McCall) the Series 90 chassis had been stretched to 165" wheelbase and they were built in-house by Fleetwood (Body Style 9006). Standard Catalog of Cadillac doesn´t seem to list them within the Series 90 (which was the Series 75 with a V-16 engine). -- Last edit: 2008-03-26 00:45:01 |

So the 4 inches from 161 to 165 was not a stretch by Fleetwood done solely for the Secret Service? If I understand correctly, it was available as a regular production option on Series 90 models necessary to accomodate the eight cylinders per side. Last question: Did the V-16-powered commerical Series 75 models make up only a part of total Series 90 production? |

Standard Catalog of Cadillac says: "The Series 90 for 1938 became essentially a Series 75 with a V-16 engine. Even though the wheelbase was 13 inches shorter, the bodies were equal or larger in all dimensions than previous Cadillac V-16s. This was accomplished by fitting the nearly flat engine low in the frame and partially behind the line of the firewall." So I understand they didn´t need the space for the engine. I don´t know if there were any further 165" chassis except the ones mentioned here. As to my knowledge. the Series 90 wasn´t part of the Series 75 and vice versa. If they had a V-8 engine, they were Series 75, if they had a V-16, it was a Series 90. At least that´s how I understand it. |

Yes but should include something to the effect of "Presidential Limousine by Fleetwood" or "Fleetwood Series 90 Presidential Limousine." I can't confirm the exact semantics, so I ask for guidance from Animatronixx, maxp, or mrcadillac. EDIT: If these cars were just purchased "off the shelf" then it should stay as just Series 90, but I expect there were some modifications, if only for both the armour and storage areas for weaponry and for the special kind of running boards used by Secret Service personnel. -- Last edit: 2008-03-26 19:10:41 |

I think "Series 90 Presidential Limousine by Fleetwood" will be fine. They must have been far away from "of the shelf" and were bespoke special bodies. The "by Fleetwood" addition will indicate that they were built in-house and not manufactured by an aftermarket coachbuilder. |

Even though these two cars were Fleetwood "custom jobs", I guess they should be identified by the style number appearing on their body tag, i.e. 389006 [bodies # 1 and 2]. They both may be considered as 1938 "Series 90" Cadillacs by Fleetwood. They are not part of the regular Fleetwood style offerings.
