Datsun Z? |

I make this to be a circa 1979 Datsun 280 ZX. |

Yes, 280 ZX. |

That's quite interesting because in the pilot episode, Dwight mentions owning a "'78 280Z" but he is always shown driving the red Pontiac Firebird. He might own both cars although we never see him drive a Datsun. |

First year for 280 ZX was 1979. |

I think it was just one line in the pilot episode and when they started to film more episodes for whatever reason they had Dwight drive a different car. Since Dwight's car first appeared in the second season, it could always be assumed that he changed cars. As the pilot episode closely follows the script of the first episode in the original version of The Office, the line about Dwight's Datsun 280Z is a "translation" of Gareth's line about the Triumph TR3 that he's restored (Dwight is based on Gareth). Various little things like that were rewritten to fit the American setting. From The Office (UK): Gareth: Yeah, I've got a TR3. I bought it for 1200, done it up, now it's worth 3 grand. From The Office (US): Dwight: Yeah, I got a '78 280Z. I bought it for 1200, fixed it up, it's now worth 3 grand. -- Last edit: 2008-04-02 19:30:48 |

Yeah, I thought it was funny how David referred to Jennifer as Camilla Parker-Bowles in the UK series while Michael referred to Jan as Hillary Clinton in the US series. |

Looks like the Datsun was not sold with 0 bids. On another note, I was going through my old files and noticed that it was seen in the background in Ep 4.14 |
