@parsakarimidost: Please tell us why you think it's a 740 and not a 760? |

I could ask the same if someone else said if it was a 760 rather than a 740 but since we don't have pictures of the interior/rear-end/engine-bay etc. i think it's best to go with the base 740 rather than a 760. |

Thank you for having an idea before typing the model designation. My idea is that the 760 was introduced in 1982 (at least in Sweden, I don't know about the U.S.) and the 740, according to wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_700_Series#Volvo_740 , in 1985 for the U.S. (1984 in Sweden). Because of the release of the film in 1986 the filming must mostly have been done in 1985, and thus not many 740 would have reached the market (unless it was a product placement, but that is unlikely as it is rather hidden), while plenty of 760 would have been around. Because of that I'd vote for a 760. |

You're absolutely right about the availability of 760 before the 740 in the North American market but there's always possibility of it being a 740 as well as it being a 760. 740 was cheaper and new to the market it could've been just a bought/leased brand new car parked on the side of the street while the filming took place and Volvos were very popular in North America in the 70s and 80s the chances are almost 50/50 for the 740/760 |

Do you have access to any sales figures for different models for Volvo's in the U.S. the years 1982 until 1985? With those one can make up a likelihood for a certain model. |
