These were not officially part of Mercury until 1962. First introduced as just Comet in 1960. Actually designed for the Edsel line but Edsel was gone by the time these came out. Look close and you will see the studio taped over the scripted 'Comet' badge on the front fender. This was probably to please Chrysler. If you look at another photo in this series - http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/3426/capture11ho7.jpg you should see that this is a station wagon. No model names, so this is just a 1960 Comet station wagon. -- Last edit: 2008-04-04 18:00:07 |

That's too funny big_dave! (about the duct taped badge) I thought it was a little too early for side markers! |

It's a 1962 Comet. I own a 1960 Comet wagon, and the '60-'61 models had the side trim in the same place, but it was wider and peaked in the middle. The '62 model had this slightly narrower trim that was concave on the face and peaked at the bottom. The '63s had different trim that was narrower still, this can only be a '62. And it's hilarious that the studio taped the Comet script, as though they hoped no one would notice. -KK |
