Alexander ◊ 2008-04-07 12:19	It seems everyone writes it differently, but I found a cover from the official spare part list writing it 'Unimog-S 404'. We should change all other variations, like 'Unimog S404' or 'Unimog 404S' accordingly. Among all listed 404 I found two 404.0 (uses the cab of 406) and two more made for the Swiss Army, like this one (different canvas cab roof). I'll change these accordingly. Antoine, could you do a batch job for the rest naming them 'Unimog-S 404.1' and best remove the chassis code ... its in the name already.

I would say it is useful to have chassis codes when the model name/number and the Baureihe (what we use as a chassis code) differ. We could add [404.1] as a chassis code, but it would look a bit strange, as the code is used as the name. Only exception could be if we can attach a more detailed code to the vehicles. For the 404.1 these are: - 404.111 = French Army with short wheelbase (2670 mm) - 404.112 = military version for foreign countries - 404.113 = fire engines (military and civil) - 404.114 = Bundeswehr flat-bed version - 404.115 = chassis with various box-bodies - 404.117 = Portugese Army in Angola, had the OM 615 diesel engine I think we have a French Army one here: /vehicle_58573-Mercedes-Benz-Unimog-S-4041.html -- Last edit: 2008-04-07 20:50:48

Alexander ◊ 2008-04-08 01:04	I don't think this would be good, as these military Unimog-S are widely know as the '404'. The '-S' and the '.1' are less well known among fans and users (but of course should be there).

Giving exact names and codes can be rather difficult, especially due to the fact the names were changed over the years while the vehicles were not changed. The one in question is -- as far as I can see -- a Mercedes-Benz Unimog U65 [406] (1963).
