What a nice car!! Do you know who was the body designer? They are reminiscent of Raymond Loewy. Although he had a very attractive design he was overshadowed by the Ford, Austin and BMC of the time ... Something that had not happened with his first generation of 1948 |

I do not have a photograph, but I took my driving test in the estate car version of these in 1965. They might look good, but they were a bit of a barge to drive. The car belonged to my Dad, shortly afterwards he changed it for an Austin Farina Cambridge, and then a 1964 Triumph 2000. He always bought newish used cars, when he could afford to, and kept them for about two years. Original designers of Phase 3 car, Carl Otto of New York, whose man Tucker Madawick did the body with Walter Belgrove of Standard Motor Co who had done the original Vanguard, Phase 3 to Phase 4 modifications by Giovanni Michelotti, who was with Vignale at the time. The car was then modified by the insertion of the Triumph 2000 six cylinder engine, and called the Vanguard 6. /vehicle_1150890-Standard-Vanguard-Estate-1959.html -- Last edit: 2022-07-12 17:03:47 |

Thanks for this interesting info! As a curiosity, the wedge line of this car was acquired a year earlier (June 1954) by Japanese Datsun Convar: |
