This scene was a reenactment of the assault on Marvin Brown committed by Michael X at the Black House commune on Holloway Road in North London on the morning of the 23rd June 1970. This assault came to known as the "Slave Collar Affair" due to the fact that during the assault, Michael X put a spiked slave collar on Brown while Michael X and others continued to threaten him. In reality, Marvin Brown's assault was an attempt to extort money from him. Two of Michael X's men were found guilty of the assault and were sentenced to 18 months imprisonment on the 14th July 1971, while Michael X and the others were charged with extortion but were released on bail posted by X's friend, singer and former member of the Beatles, John Lennon in January 1971. A month later in February 1971, Michael X fled to Trinidad where he started up another commune also called the Black House. The London Black House closed in autumn 1970 and had later burnt down in mysterious circumstances, while the Trinidad Black House had burnt down on the 22nd February 1972. The fire at the Trinidad Black house, led to the local police to the discovery of the bodies of Gale Benson and Joseph Skerritt. -- Last edit: 2022-08-07 15:21:36 |
