..and what about that Australia origin? If true there should be more than the 2 listed as such? ![]() -- Last edit: 2022-08-16 22:56:45 |

I think these have Australian origin because they are rebadged Chevrolet Cruze (not the sedan ![]() |

Really? Body looks almost the same with previous 2000 'Japanese' Ignis ![]() |

Personally I don't know, I thought there was a post explaining this, but I can't find it, and I noticed even Holden Cruze has Japan origin ![]() |

Ha ha yeah I didn't know either until I read that post* (it's on the only other Aus. origin Ignis page /vehicle.php?id=1681668 ). Wiki confirms that 2nd gen "Holden/Chevrolet Cruze" cars were Holden designed even though it also says they were Suzuki Ignis based... -which is glaringly obvious to anyone comparing the two. Looks like a f/l version of the original Japanese design - a bit stretching it for "Aus. origin" perhaps ![]() *not that there's a particularly detailed explanation! -- Last edit: 2022-08-16 23:58:31 |

I read Wikipedia too..I'm not really sure if that's enough to grant Australian origin? |
◊ 2022-08-17 00:10 |
Well I wouldn't grant it.. But I won't insist if it will upset any Australians ![]() edit: I think I found the more detailed post, it was under Chevrolet Cruze /vehicle.php?id=602251 antp quotes wiki but it hardly looks like a new design. -- Last edit: 2022-08-17 00:27:09 |

Origin Japan. Let me explain. The Ignis and Holden Cruze are all based on the 1998 Suzuki Kei. It's been widened and stretched once - by Holden or Suzuki themselves, I don't care - to create the JDM Swift/export Ignis. You'll recognise it by its small rear lights. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:2002_Suzuki_Ignis_GL_1.3_Rear.jpg And the Holden Cruze, with a different shape for the quarter windows and larger, smoked rear lights. Link to "en.wikipedia.org" Both versions were roughly the same size. Then there was another stretching operation, which gave a longer Ignis for the european market. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:2007_Suzuki_Ignis_GL_1.3_Rear.jpg Our car here is one of those hungarian-made Ignises. As for the codes, it's all down to VINs. In Japan, the chassis code starts at the fourth digit, for instance HT81S. On Euro-made Suzukis, it starts on the fifth digit, with a prefix on the fourth. I think it was M for this Ignis. And so, they're often refered to as "MH" even though they're HT. Or HV, or HX or HY, according to the number of doors and transmission. Simple, isn't it ? |
