In 1949 the only chassis being built by Alvis was the TA14. If this car is from that year, then TA14 Special might fit. |

^ You are guessing. The date of the car is given by the post as 1949, neither the Firefly, nor the Speed Anything were in production then. You are also suggesting that it might be a Firefly, wheelbase 9ft 10.5in, 1496cc 4 cylinders 50bhp, or a Speed 20, wheelbase 10ft 3in or 10ft 4in depending on variant, 2511cc or 2762cc 6 cylinders 87bhp, a bigger car altogether. You cannot equate the two cars. My difficulty is that if this car WAS built in 1949, it can’t be anything other than the TA14, (the TB14 was a TA14 in drag, and only built in 1950) or, if it is prewar, I have no idea what it might be from the posted image, or from the linked image. Quantities built: - Firefly. 879: 69 survivors. Speed 20 Type SA. 353: 76 survivors. Note, only the Type SA, the others not counted as they do not have longitudinal leaf springs. TA14. 3213: 310 survivors. TB14. 100: 19 survivors. I have a friend with a pre war Alvis, it may take some time but I’ll try asking him. -- Last edit: 2022-09-23 20:29:15 |

so many information ! I am not a specialist but I did not think that there were so many Alvis models. I am still amazed at the great creativity of the time ! |

^ I worked for Alvis Vehicles. The book from which I get my Alvis information has 432 pages, although that includes the aircraft engines and the military vehicles as well. My working days were well after car production closed, but the military products were still being designed and made. -- Last edit: 2022-09-25 21:58:38 |
