Spanish Air Force had quite a lot of these 4x4 versions. |

Front end is very VW Beetle reminiscent. |

That is the dominant German style of the postwar era. Yes, there had been streamlined vehicles before the war, but the flat headlights and bulbous front was continuous across many manufacturers in Germany - West as in East. The DKW F9, planned for 1940 but canceled due to the war, was produced by both Germanies in their own version: the DKW F89 in the FRG and the IFA F9 which more closely followed the original prototype in the GDR. This was because the newly founded Auto Union had its headquarters in Ingolstadt in Bavaria, in the American zone, while the former factories were in Zwickau, Zschopau and Zittau - all in Saxony in the Soviet zone. |

They both look very well done! Interesting seeing Western and Eastern takes on what is the same car. I do quite like the IFA integrating the grille into the hood. The DKW does look more fierce, though. |

^That's why they gave eventually gave it a big grille to make it look more cuddly Beetle-y, and this is what sold the Americans on it: Link to "c8.alamy.com" |
