It's a Mk.1-cabbed "Black Knight" 4-wheeler, new to John Smith's brewery in Tadcaster and registered UWU 136G. It was restored by Smith's in the late 1980s and subsuequently sold on. Later owners included Colin Pitt of Otley. The small version of the "Big A" was fitted from new, as it had to share grille space with a large magnet symbol, to advertise Smith's Magnet Ales. John Smith ran a number of Atkinsons, which were an unusual choice for dray work, being premium heavy duty lorries normally used on long distance work. |
