Aus build was 1955-56 as [DO1034]. looks like they only did S1 Isis, suggesting it didn't sell well. |

It didn’t sell well anywhere. The public perception of large Morris cars was struggling against the cheaper, but flashier, Austin equivalent models, and the middle class Fabian of the Yard Wolseleys. The fact that the Series II Isis was the last bigger (sixpot) Morris until the six cylinder Land Crabs rather underlines the point. Sales. Isis SI. 8541 Isis SII. 3614 The contemporary Oxfords SII and SIII, sold 87,342 and 58117 (inc SIV). The Minor in all guises, sold 1.62 million, the Marina/Ital over 1.3 million. The Australian production included the Marshal, a Morris-badged A95, introduced in 1957, which appeared to take the place of the Series II Isis in Australia. It still didn’t set the Murray on fire. -- Last edit: 2022-12-23 22:46:46 |

In those days BMC Australia hadn't yet merged their dealer networks, which still reflected the separate Austin and Morris chains, much as they did in UK. So when the Austin arm launched the A95 (saloon, Countryman and even some A105 saloons) and the Isis bombed, Morris dealers demanded their own version, so they got the Marshal with a bench seat. But only 1341 Marshal saloons, 54 Travellers and 30 panel vans were made, plus a one-off Marshal 105 saloon. One of those almost-as-rare as unicorn things we don't yet have - differences from A95 include a boomerang grille motif and different pattern of side trim. Maybe one day we'll spot one and cross it off the Missing list - meanwhile the hunt continues, along for instance with the elusive Jensen GT (the sports estate version of the Jensen-Healey). |

That’s a surprise, one of my mates had a Jensen GT back in the day. |
