I'm not sure that you are, ccf. I don't remember this series of Rover 800 being sold in the UK as Sterling; IIRC the previous series was, but only (unsuccessfully) in the USA. |

That's obviouisly a "phase2" Rover 800 series, hatchback version... Sterling was trim level , not available everywhere. I don't know how we can recognize this trim level here? |

Police cars in normal use would usually get issued with standard wheel trims rather than alloys. So an authentic vehicle or one used for TV could be the same, meaning wheels/trims not a way of identifying the model correctly. |
