my mistake..further research into the type of mounting...............Its a Churchill MkIV with TLC Carpet Laying Device..TLC ="Tank Landing Craft"..these pre dated the bobbin ,being developed in 1940 originally for mounting to Cruiser A9 and Matilda II tanks. They were designed to be laid across a beach from a landing craft to prevent vehicles bogging down in the sand. On this vehicle, the bobbin to the front arm is empty..it carried a canvas mat..the pailing trackway the tank is on hasnt come off the bobbin..its been laid earlier..Technically it isnt an AVRE as such, merely a Churchill MkIV tank with TLC Carpet Laying Device. -- Last edit: 2008-07-09 18:22:52 |
