2008 auction listing: "1931 ROLLS-ROYCE PHANTOM II CONTINENTAL TOURING SALOON, Registration GP 6800 Chassis no. 50GX Engine no. KA95. 50GX was the 16th Phantom II Continental made, ordered by JA Fletcher, a wealthy brewer from Walsall with a shooting estate in Shropshire. Fletcher chose Barker to build a touring saloon on almost identical lines to the celebrated pre-production Continental 26EX which starred at the 1930 Biarritz Concours d’Élégance. Following Fletcher’s death in 1940, 50GX was laid up during the war and later delivered bread in Yorkshire, before finding a more sympathetic home in Florida and spent many years in a motor museum in Michigan." |
