It means the car has a straight 6 cylinder overhead cam engine, "no pushrods", They made lots of torque. -- Last edit: 2008-08-02 17:21:54 |

In 1967, is the LeMans a model in the Tempest Serie or a separate line? |

The Tempest and LeMans both shared the same body, however the Lemans was the more deluxe model. Both model names would not appear on the same car, it would be one or the other. |

By 1967 the LeMans was a probably in reality a sub-series of the Tempest. If this car was a Tempest Custom it would be a 23567. The standard Tempest series was 233**. The GTOs were 24*** making it a separate series. In the mid-1960s GM was right into having many sub-series of each model.Interpreting the numbers this way means the GP (266**)was a sub-series of the Bonneville (262**) and the Executive (255**) was a sub-series of the Catalina (252**). Confused? - don't worry. This car is probably quite a rare variant - only 9820 LeMans convertibles were built that year. I don't think many would have been six cylinder Sprints. When I was in the US in 1978 I owned a 1967 LeMans two door hardtop with the 326 V8 and two speed auto. It would do 85 in low and 100mph+ in top and averaged about 22miles/USgallon - with gas around 68c/gal! -- Last edit: 2008-08-03 00:29:00 |

To clarify a point, I agree with Firebird86 - the LeMans cars did not have Tempest badges anywhere. The ohc six was essentially a 230 cid Chevy six fitted with an overhead camshaft. It has its place in history as the first engine to use a fibreglass belt to drive the overhead camshaft. The Sprint variant used a four barrel carb to produce 215 hp. |

All these tech infos are true, as a matter of fact I cannot say it was a strong and reliable motor, I have been gone through a nightmare of rebuildings of the factory original ZD 230 of this car many times from 1990 ( the year I found it) until early 2000's when I took a decision... anyway the car is still at home .. |
