Why 500? There were other weight classes offered. 600, 700 etc. -- Last edit: 2024-01-31 18:24:32 |

These Fargo trucks that marketed here in Indonesia from what I've read & see photos of them mostly are D-500 variants. Yes, that doesn't rule out the possibility that there are other series that also marketed, but there are only records of D-500 & D-600 (longer wheelbase) that entered here. My apologies, I should've listed it as a "Dodge D-Series" instead, not based on a sole assumption when they're no specific data about it. Also, what's interesting is both Fargo & Dodge brands entered the Indonesian automotive market. Thanks to the regulations at that time allowed same brand of vehicles to be sold by several companies simultaneously, then to compete fairly. NV Bandar marketed Fargo, meanwhile Djakarta Motor Company marketed Dodge & assembled locally by PT Indonesian Service Company (ISC), its factory located at Jl. Lodan No. 2-8, Ancol, North Jakarta. This was later changed in 1969, now the policy said that one brand could only held by one single company. Technically, we know that the Fargo & Dodge brand are basically the same; badge engineering but different features, etc, essentially still the same. Here they're seen as a different entity. So, despite the 1969 regulation revision, This Fargo & Dodge thing still existed through the 70s decade. Also, forgot to mention that this truck in this scene set in 1963 is anachronistic. The Fargo (Dodge) D-Series seen here is the second gen which first appeared in 1965, 2 years later. Should be the 1st gen, but it's understandably hard to find one that's still running to film in 2004. More fitting 1st gen version: ![]() Source: as seen in the pic |

Nice advert finds! Agree with dhill_cb7 on that moot point, at least D-Series by default for now, but from what I can see, it looks like a short-wheelbase version, hardly to tell in those vantages. Again, not sure if SWB is indeed exclusive to D-500 or also appeared in the other weight classess, especially there have been possible records of D-500s and D-600 LWBs being brought here as you've mentioned above, I'm not studied on these at all. Also, not necessary to bump a new comment post if you missed something, there's the "Edit Comment" button between the "Reply" and "Delete" buttons, below the timestamp. If your comment is missed, the Forums is where you can bump your comment to the admin and mods there. Additionally, the Fargo make is fine to keep here because of that already-visible front hood badging shown, unless if it was badging hackjob which we shall never know. |
