I live where this was filmed and can tell you the US Post Office hasn't used these in ages, all the mail trucks are the newer LLV type vehicle (the truck that replaced the DJ-5.) |

You're right. The Post Office hasn't used these in a long time. And it's not just in Rhode Island. Although, from time to time, you'll find local postal workers who buy used ones and drive them around to deliver the mail anyhow. -- Last edit: 2008-08-09 16:23:32 |

Lack of sidemarkers means that this is a 1965-1968 which would make it a Jeep not AM General |

I wonder why it is in service then? is this movie supposed to be set in the past of something? |

Probably because it is a movie prop and the film makers could not find the accurate more modern postal vehicle. |

I see the rear sidemarker at the roof at the rear corner. The sidemaker at the fender would be blocked by the sliding door. |

Interesting that Shoeshine/Underdog's bark broke both the widnow and the mailman's glasses, but not the windshield on the van ![]() |

The 5-slot grille and the huge square blinkers mean a 1971-84 AM General model. |

Could this be 1982 model year based on the postal serial number here? /vehicle_95846-AM-General-DJ-5-Dispatcher-1983.html |
