in eps 1.03* Ahh, Bowyers! They used to make a good sausage ..Haven't seen them around for some time, I wonder if they're still in business? |

Plate issued late 55. Most large supermarkets stock Bowyers Sausages, although they are no longer made by the original Bowyers company in Wiltshire, having been taken over about 8 years ago. They are now made by an Irish-based company, Kerry Foods, who also makes Walls Sausages and Richmonds Irish Sausages - in Manchester, for sale in England. The Richmonds Irish title refers to an Irish recipe. - http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090723094444AAHRM2V . |

Errr, gentlemen, sorry, but aren't you a bit unsavoury right now? British sausages ... yuk! It's hardly recommended, that the IMCDb-internal supply of sausages should exclusively be in the hands of German and Polish members! -- Last edit: 2011-10-28 14:01:20 |

That means almost no recommendation. You may mean "highly recommended" - if you do, when can I expect my sausage parcel to arrive? As with fish and chip shops, Britain has many rubbish sausages, but some very good ones. Fortunately you don't have to live near the sea to find good ones. |

Yes, sorry, after I switched off the PC, I realized, that "hardly" is wrong. But there was no time for a correction, because I had to spend (dsl would say "waste" ) time and money to bring our cats to the yearly vaccination. A sausage-parcel is no problem. Just tell me your preferences. Or shall I, due the lack of choice on the UK, make an own compilation? But it's not that bad any more as in the past. Since ALDI and LIDL have seized the UK, you have the chance to find bearable sausage-stuff in you home country. In the mid-90ies, when I had visited a friend, who studied in Sunderland, I have smuggled German food, also sausages, in my luggage. He was so desparated about the British stuff, that he begged me before to bring bread, cheese and sausages with me. At the last day, when he brought me to the Newcastle airport, he got a real happiness-rush, because nearby there was a new opened ALDI. Seriously, when he had discovered the packed Cervelat-Wurst, he had tears in his eyes. This IMCDb-CARE-packet-transfer has not to be a one-way-road. Only one can of Haggis is left. But from the Tesco-Tandoori we still have one package. |

Thanks - I should have realised you would seriously offer sausage shipments, but I have a good butchers locally. As well as ALDI and LIDL, IKEA have small food sections with interesting sausages - the smoked elk is delicious (honestly - not a joke), and in Glasgow there are a few places for good Italian, German and Spanish sausages. If you're down to your last tin of haggis, maybe sites such as http://www.scottishgourmetfood.co.uk/ and http://www.scottish-haggis.net/index.html could be interesting - both seem to ship to Germany and choice of fresh as well as tinned plus other Scottish treats. Macsweens haggis is reasonable as an all-purpose choice, plus some of the smoked salmon (Loch Fyne is wonderful) and Arbroath smokies are stunning. Best way to cook haggis is to open and mash it into a bowl, then microwave it but add a bit of water to stop drying out. |

In Dortmund there was a shop for British food, originally established for the servicemen there (but they disappeared around 1993/94), but since ca.3 years the owners are only selling via the Internet, so no fresh, resp.frozen stuff any more. I've bought fresh frozen Haggis there, when the real shop still was existing. In July, at our two-day-trip to London for purchasing the Vectra, we haven't thought to look for food, and had no time either. Otherwise we would have taken our camping cooler-box with us. My mother did so at a trip to Belgium. For all the handmade chocolades |
