Different unit appears at the end of the movie, another cop car, this time undercover. ![]() All of HMC 6470s had Hipoca badge in the grille, but I think they still got refered to as Haima? I dont think any other car model from Haima had such badge in this period. For the sake of consistency it makes sense to leave it just as Haima. Quite surprising this appears to be first time the HMC 6470 appeared in a movie, given that it was made for 10 years... |

Yes, they have always been called "hai ma". That's because it's the Chinese abbreviation for the Mazda cars produced by the Hainan Automobile Manufacturing Plant (both Hainan Mazda and later FAW Haima Automobile). That's what my friends, including some of the Haima workers, call it when I live next to the Haikou Jinpan Industrial Zone (Haikou Free Trade Zone), where Haima Automobile Factory is located. In fact, it was only sold in Hainan in '92 (test assembly in December '90), and Hainan Automobile Manufacturing Plant purchased Ford's production line in the Philippines in the late '80s. So the one in the movie is one of the first 186 cars. I don't recall ever seeing any other Haima cars in Hainan with the HIPOCA logo other than the hmc6470, in fact I can't figure out what the logo really means, as I said earlier, we all call it "Haima". BTW, this car is a gas guzzler.I've driven it once before. |

Correction of an error: sales began in 1992 and ceased in 2001, not just in '92. |

Thanks for your input! About the name, Hipoca -> Hippocampus -> Sea horse -> 海马 -> Haima |

Yes, although I thought the car got discontinued in 2002. The Beijing variant got introduced later, and was much rarer from what i reckon. |
