This is called a Quasar.

I only read about it in a book a couple of days ago, which does mention about it's appearance in this film.

Nice, Twingoman! Me too I've recently read about it, but I couldn't remember (or find) its name. Cf http://flickr.com/photos/quasar-unipower/2469918819/

Probably.

According to this book I have, this Quasar was built in Middlesex by a company called Universal Power Drives Ltd, and based on a design by Quasar Khanh, a North Vietnamese engineer living in Paris.

It doesn't say how many were built, but it does say that a few went to the French textile group SNIP, and that one was used in this film.

Very unusual.

I think I see a 1961-1962 Buick Special in the main image just to the left of the Quasar.

I remember reading about these too. Weren't they powered by Mini mechanicals?

Looks like it, indeed.Maybe the same as the blue wagon just in front of the Peugeot van in /vehicle_200175-Porsche-911-E-Targa-1969.html ?

The Unipower name was also attached to another mini-based design...

Hi all, I'm always glad to see a few comment about the Quasar-Unipower City Car. I'm the author of quasar-unipower.com and the flickr site. I started some research about this car 14 years ago and I'm writing a small book (in french, sorry) dedicated to this car. I hope to publish it soon.
Your pictures are nice. I already got these but Gaumont ask me 250 euros by picture for the right to use one in my book. Sad !!
An other Quasar-Unipower appears in the movie "Les Anges" from Jean Desvilles (1973).
The genuine files have been lost and "memory" also but around 15 cars have been built. 13 came in France, one was sold in Uk and one to Canada. I know six cars still surviving in France.
All the best
