It´s too obvious Clarkson got inspired by this: /vehicle_47655-Mercedes-Benz-230-TE-S124-1990.html Almost same vehicle, and almost same fate. |

Hmmm, I doubt it was "inspired" by that. Perhaps it's a parody of that. That Fifth Gear thing was just a lame rip off of the Toyota Hilux in Top Gear. The Mercedes may be well engineered and well built, but it's not comparable to the rugged simplicity of the Hilux and was a poor choice for a "test" like that. A W123 would have been more suitable. |

Oh, i forgot the " " in the word inspired... I also think it was a parody, it´s just too random... |

Because it's old and not worth much, that's all the reason Clarkson needs. Cars are pretty disposable to most people in our society. -- Last edit: 2008-11-24 14:52:54 |

That is unfortunately true. Way too disposable. |

But could you imagine what things would be like if cars weren't scrapped? We'd have a world full of old junk cars. |

I understand if you blow up some rustbuckets, but the 124 series of Mercedes (both sedan and station wagon) are cars which are known to have passed a million miles. It is a dumb decision to destroy one of these because they nearly last forever ... |

No, not a World, but a continent named Africa.... |
