WW 1303 (large tail lights, large bumpers, bulbous hood), MY 74 or later |

Nope, it has a flat windscreen and 'old type' luggage lid... By these (and by the indicators built in the bumper and the louvres in the engine lid) it will have to be a 1978+ 1200, built in Mexico (or Brazil? Production in Germany had ceased by then). |

I'd say, this scene was shot in Panama or Chile (locations, as imdb says), so it's a Mexican or Brazilian Typ 1. Yes, it has the Mexican bumpers (which it had until the end of production). The Brazilian ones had other sizes of the windows. And the Mexican made VW 1200, as it was available in Germany from 1978 to 1985, had originally no vents in hte engine-lid (of course, it's easy to change it). |

According to 'VW Käfer - Ein Auto schreibt Geschichte' by Dr. Ulrich von Poll, even the Käfer 1200 sold in Germany (but built in Mexico) had these vent louvers since 1978... Earlier years showed these vent openings only on the models with bigger engines. |

But not all. The most of these 1978-1985-Typ 1, which I had seen and can rememember had the lid without any vents (perhaps later ones?) Anyways, if the bumpers above are original, it's a much newer car, built years after the export to Europe was stopped. |

I think it's a Mexican Volkswagen, the Brazilian VW "Fusca" has the minor sized windshield. |

Hello- Actually-I now own it- It's definitely a 1997 Mexibeetle(ZZZ in serial number indicates for export only) now in Panama(two of them were painted same grey/dented the same places ) Engine -ACD series--was made in Brazil-1600cc. I know this because I now own one of them used in the movie--and Carla-in Panama owns the other one . If ever anyone needs a matching pair of VW beetles for another movie in Panama-we would be pleased to supply our matching vw's for the movie company. I'm in Canada-416-460-9013 |

@allan - VIN is 11Uxxx... , is it? 1997 fits every visible detail except the bumpers should have been body color with black center, AFAIK. @ingo: 30/7 1981 until the 1600i replaced the 1200 for MY1991 onwards were without vents in rear lid. The vented lid should be on models with one exhaust pipe. Can that explain your memories? |

A bit. By I have no knowledge about the Beetle-versions, which never appeared in Germany. |

It is my understanding that they were sold as Volkswagen Sedán in Mexican market https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anexo:Volkswagen_Sed%C3%A1n_en_M%C3%A9xico |
