Left hand drive foreign cars seem to be quite common in Japan, for reasons of prestige. Wikipedia says: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Golf_Mk2#Models The fact that all Japanese models had the same fuel-injection engine with catalytic converter suggests that this might have been necessary to meet Japanese emissions standards. If so, left hand drive Golfs sold in Japan would have to be made to the same Japan-only trim levels. |
