mün was for münsingen in baden-württemberg until 1973. now they have rt for reutlingen. yes, slk is a new plate, since november 2007 for the new saalekreis: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kreisreform_Sachsen-Anhalt_2007 |

oops, sorry, you are right. i am principally ignoring plates from eastern germany and plates in the modern style. only bygone counties from western germany are finding my interest. ääh, tönz, aus welcher ecke kommst du? gab es dort altkreise? falls du darauf achten könntest, was noch so in garagen oder kellern herumfliegt, würde ich mich sehr freuen. -- Last edit: 2009-01-14 12:39:52 |

but the wikipedia-list is not complete, only the actual combinations are listed. that ones from bygone counties or towns -like mün- are missing. they werent issued any more, but vehicles, which still have them, can keep them. |

@Ingo: Ich komme aus FD, da gab es mal den Altkreis Hünfeld. Vor ein paar Monaten war mal ein Artikel in der Lokalzeitung, wie viele Fahrzeuge noch mit HÜN-Kennzeichen zugelassen sind. Ich glaube, es waren ca. 2 Mopeds und 5 Traktoren... |

In first instance the licence belongs to the car: if you buy a used car in your district, you can keep these plates easily. But: it's possible for you to keep the plates of your old car. If you buy a brand new car (or a used car from elsewhere), you must withdraw your old car und have the license number reserved. Circumstantial and expensive (fees), but you can keep the plates. If you buy a used car from your distict and want to keep your own plates, you have to withdraw both cars and have your number reserved (more fees). And: If you move to another district, you must get a new registration for your car (even more fees). Germany, beloved homeland of bureaucracy! |

garco - as i know, it is usual in switzerland and in belgium, that the plates are belonging to the owner. there you are taking your plate with you, when you are buying a new car. so this is possible, that you can see brand new belgian or swiss cars with old license-plates. |
