All i can find with a similar name is a Loomis (1900-1904)made in the USA. (1900 was a single cylinder engine ..1901 a two cylinder & 1904 ..3 cylinder.!)..If(?)..it is this car...I'd go for 1904.! info from:- The illustrated Encyclopedia of Automobiles (book -1979) -- Last edit: 2006-02-06 00:56:33 |

I listened more closely to the dialog in the film and it could be either loonic or loonix. Assuming its more like loonic, its probably this car. The site I found it on also has the following: L'Unic 12/24 fut produite de 1909 à 1910. Since the character often spoke french in the movies, I think it is safe to call this car a 1909-1910 L'Unic (or Unic) 12/24. Can anyone confirm? -- Last edit: 2006-02-22 22:03:31 |

The "u" in French is not pronounced "oo", so I can't confirm |

I do not speak french so don't know the sounds. I use an online translator to read the french comments. I am ever so slowly learning to read french but I have given up on speaking it. I am from the south in the US and everyone laughs when I try to speak any language including english. |

The French "u" (IPA code [y], where the English "oo" is [u]) does not exist in English, I think; so it is difficult to explain how it should sound like In this case if the guy that speaks French in the movie is not a native French speaker, maybe that his pronunciation is wrong, and then it would be Unic... who knows... |

Thanks, I know I can't depend on movie dialog (just hoping for an I.D). The word could be anything - even a made up word. I do know that T Model Fords were built in England so maybe its just a plain old Ford. -- Last edit: 2006-02-22 22:34:40 |

Thanks, I understand. My wife speaks a little french and I when I saw your note I asked her to say "L'unic" in french. She did, WOW - next time I'll ask her before I make such a dummy of myself. |

I listened to the dialog again with earphones and a different DVD player - the actor said "Maroon Unic". The car is actually a Unic circa 1910. http://members.lycos.nl/kiawallpaper/unic.jpg It is a french car but the dialog and script was english so the actor probably said the name as it would be said in english and not french. -- Last edit: 2006-03-11 15:44:43 |

It comes very close to this UNIC: which was described as a UNIC C7 Roadster built in 1908. |

I found another image, which proves my case: Next to the T Series as in this image I found references to 'séries C' and 'séries P'. All were C7 with 12CV engines. |
