Haha...this is MY car! I played "Commander Carpenter" in the film, "The Dead Next Door"...and seeing as the movie had virtually no budget to speak of, most actors who had a car to use in the film simply used their own. I bought this Datson from a car parts dealer the previous year and though it looked terrible, it actually ran extremely well...owing to the fact the the former owner had access to all the replacement parts ever needed. The only problem it had was that the manual shift gear guide was missing, which meant that you had to be extremely careful when shifting because there was nothing to guide the shifter into the correct gear groove. There were times when nobody on the set besides myself could even drive the car for any pick-up filming shots if I wasn't on the set that day because they couldn't change gears! The only other problem I ever had was with overheating. There were scenes requiring a car-caravan, of sorts, of zombie church followers who are preparing to attack their enemies. At one point, our cars are all full of extra passengers...who would be filmed hurriedly getting out to start the battle...and all the filled cars are shown driving up a long driveway. Having to shoot and reshoot the scene many times put alot of strain on my old overloaded Datson and by the end of filming that segment I thought it was only a matter of time til she boiled over. After the filming ended, I think I kept that car on the road for another 3 or 4 years. As a musician it was great for hauling gear to gigs...and was great on gas! Finally, when the breaks completely went (pads, rotors, lines and master cylinder) I deemed it not worth the cost to fix and sadly got rid of her for scrap. To this day though, it was one of the best and most reliable vehicles that I had ever owned! |

subego: That's awesome. I was the one who captured these images from the DVD to contribute to the site. Always good to hear from the actual car owners and people behind the scenes. |
