From http://mercedesgwagen.galeon.com/ "In issue 14 of G-Wizz, our editor seemed quite concerned about the possibility of the G-Wagen not being a true Mercedes but a re-badged Puch. Despite the fact that Steyr-Puch has a long history as builder of very capable off-roaders like the Haflinger and Pinzgauer, which in fact did not heir the beauty of the Austrian horse breeds after which they were named, the truth is that the G-Wagen is a TRUE Mercedes, since this company was very much responsible for its conception, although this was done in co-operation with Steyr-Daimler-Puch. The following intends to be a longer-than-expected history of the G-Wagen." From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes_G "Developed in co-operation with the Austrian car manufacturer Steyr-Daimler-Puch,[1] production of the G-Class began in 1979 with the 460 Series models.[2] The G-Class has been sold under the Puch name in certain markets" And now the problem is Mercedes G-Klasse Puch; Puch-Mercedes G-Klasse, Puch G-Klasse, etc... |

Correctly it's a Puch G. The car was developed by Steyr-Puch and still in production over there. Mercedes made just badge-engineering and sold it under their name (Peugeot, too, not to forget). Sure, during the years there were used more and more Mercedes-parts, but it was never a pure Mercedes Benz. So origin Austria is correct, for Puch AND Mercedes G. IMHO for the Peugeot-version, too. btw.: this car and the Lada Niva are actual world-champions: they are the car-models, which are for the longest time in production without substancial facelifts. |

Yes, in Austria it was always sold under the name Puch. Im some other countries, too. I think, mostly at the Austrian neighbours. |

@DynaMike: "Kommandofahrzeug" of the Vienna fire-fighters: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berufsfeuerwehr_Wien @walter: don't look on the pic, where they test their tools. Link to "de.wikipedia.org" P.S. In Germany it's called "ELW" = Einsatzleitwagen -- Last edit: 2009-02-25 17:53:57 |

Danke, Ingo.

Indeed, I'll update the flag for these. |
